Christmas Facts


Christmas, is one of the popular holidays where Christan people gather around with the ones they love and exchange gifts! It’s a national holiday, it’s the biggest shopping event of the year, but there’s more to it than just that.

1. The first artificial Christmas trees were made of goose feathers dyed green, by the Germans.
2.Jingle Bells", originally called “One Horse Open Sleigh”, was first written for Thanksgiving and then became one of the most popular Christmas songs.

3. In 1843, Charles Dickens wrote "A Christmas Carol” in just six weeks.
4. A common misconception is that someone took the "Christ" out of Christmas by using X-mas instead. Where as in Greek, X means Chi, the first letter of Christ’s name in the Greek alphabet.

5. The 26th of December (traditionally known as St Stephen's Day), aka Boxing Day was named so because money was collected in alms-boxes placed in churches during the festive season. This money was then distributed during to the poor and needy after Christmas. Some people think it’s called Boxing Day, as the stores clear up to 70% off their items before they “box” them up in storage.
6. Santa's Reindeers are called Dasher, Prancer, Dancer, Comet, Cupid, Vixen, Donner and Blitzen.
  
7. Christmas trees are edible. Many parts of pines, spruces, and firs can be eaten. The needles are a good source of vitamin C. Pine nuts, or pine cones, are also a good source of nutrition.
8. Five years after the founding of Hallmark, the company introduced its first Christmas cards in 1915.

9. In America, the weeks leading up to Christmas are the biggest shopping weeks of the year. Many retailers make up to 70% of their annual revenue in the month preceding Christmas.
10. In Syria, Christmas gifts are distributed by the smallest one of the Wise Men's camels.
